Delicious Reading

I've been a terrible reader for months. When the stack of books on your bedside table is taller than the lamp, it's time to start reading again. There are other stacks like this one in other places around the house, but the bedside books are next in the queue.

The two I'm currently reading (And the Band Played On by R. Shilts and Love Walked In by M. De Los Santos) aren't there because they're in my lap.

From the bottom:
What is the What? - D. Eggers
The Better of McSweeney's - E. Horowitz
Fearless Living - R. Britten
The Inheritance of Loss - K. Desai
Happy Cruelty Day -B. Powers
The Discomfort Zone - J. Franzen
Tienanmen Diary - H. Salisbury
The Laws of Evening - M. Yukari-Waters
Mr. Muo's Travelling Couch - D. Sijie
Book Lust - N. Pearl
NP - B. Yoshimoto
Grief - A. Holleran
Skipping Towards Gomorrah - D. Savage
Fugitives and Refugees - C. Palahniuk
That's Mr. Faggot to You - M. T. Ford
France 2007 - R. Steves
I Have Heard You Calling in the Night - T. Healy
I'm a Stranger Here Myself - B. Bryson
Grace (Eventually) - Anne Lamott
Hope in Hell - D. Bortolotti
How to Tell if Your Boyfriend is the Antichrist - P. Carlin
(journal)
The Power of One - B. Courtenay

  1. um sheeeeew that's a lot of books, I can't believe you actually dated a guy who didn't own one, then again maybe he would have liked to but all yours were in the way . :) Sadly I only know 3 of those authors.Maybe I should get outta my thriller/cop/fbi mind frame and branch out a bit.

  2. Do give a thumbs up or down on The Discomfort Zone whenever you get to it. Of course I read The Corrections and loved it but I also read his essay collection How to Be Alone. Some were only so-so but "The Harper's Essay" was amazing and some of his descriptions of what depression is like are so dead-on they still make me want to cry when I read them.

  4. I am too anal to let my books build up. In fact, I won't even buy another book if I have more than a couple or three waiting. Ijust won't do it. I love this picture, though. Nice lamp. Is Adam in the bed andjust out of view???

  5. Wow. I struggled reading "And the Band Played On". It was the whole timeline thing. So many dates and so much inaction.

"I'm a Stranger Here Myself", is the first Bill Bryson book I ever read. I've read most but my favourite (yes, it is a 'u')has to be "A Walk in the Woods". Bill decides to walk the Appalachian Trail. I was screeching on public transport and I didn't care because someone had to enjoy the mundaneness of travelling to and from work.

Also reading "Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway" by Susan Jeffers.

I'm going to check out some of your books on the list. Bye :)

  7. Dan Savage is a smart and fun read, you'll love Skipping Toward Gommorah! I can totally relate to that stack of books--but there's only so much reading one can do on the subway which is where I do most of mine.
