Celebrate Diversity!

I'm off to Buffalo Pride, and I'm hoping I won't melt in the heat or dissolve in the humidity. If I survive those, perhaps the forecasted thunderstorms will wash me away! It's all for the love of Levi Kreis, who I hope to catch in concert today during the celebration.

Here's Kelly's second annual Pride picture - beautiful, isn't it?

If you think you don't have a reason to respect and celebrate diversity, here's something to open your mind: The Laramie Project came up on my Netflix list last week, and I found myself sitting on my couch, sucking on popsicles (pre-air con units), sobbing through the movie and wondering where we all went wrong. And I've seen several other versions before! It's extremely well done and tells a compelling story that should - and has - started a revolution. Somehow it simultaneously made me wonder if life is worth living and made me feel extremely glad to be alive.

Thank heavens everyone isn't exactly like me. Welcome to the gayborhood. And happy Pride Month!

  1. Thank God you are nothing like me too! If you were, you would not be so cool. I've added "The Laramie Project to my queue. I can't wait.

  4. "Buffalo Pride"? Sounds almost, hum....what is the right word???? Naughty? Manly? Masculine? Rough? Tough?

  5. As Malcolm McLaren, former manager of the Sex Pistols sang:

First buffalo gal go around the outside, round the outside, round the outside (you know it)
Two buffalo gals go around the outside, 'round the outside, 'round the outside
Three buffalo gals (baaa) go around the outside (baaa, ba, ba)
Four buffalo gals (baaa) go around the outside, 'round the outside (baaa),
    'round the outside (baaa)
Four buffalo gals go around the outside and dosie doe your partners (baaa)

...and so on and so on. Enjoy pride.

  6. I'm sorry, I like to think of myself as a fairly tolerant person, but I just don't believe that buffalos should be allowed to serve in the military. The last thing I need is one of those things checking out my ass in the shower.

  7. I suspect pride festivals in smaller cities are a better time than the big ones (New Orleans being the rule-breaker there...what a depressing affair). I've been to LA's many times and it's Ok but a bit like visiting a Human Growth Hormone colony. Went to NYC's last year and it was good people watching but not remarkable. Long Beach was fun when I went years ago. The best time was in San Francisco maybe eight years ago -- there was this stage with great Latin music (wouldn't call it salsa, really) and we danced in the sunshine for a long time. One of those great days that stick with you.
