It Sucks

Yesterday was 70 or less and the sky was beautiful blue with just a few clouds. It was perfect weather! I can't believe how much the weather affects my mood and my opinion of this area. I think it's supposed to get bloody hot again this week. Watch out.

So This American Life is available free on iTunes, and the Showtime television show This American Life is available for purchase! Seeing Ira Glass sitting so formally at his desk in the middle of nowhere is such a treat. Watching the first episode I just felt like I was on the right side of an inside joke or something. TAL and I go way back, and I'm nuts about it. I'm deliberately watching the Showtime episodes slowly to stretch them out.

I'm getting used to living with The Cat and only occasionally want to put him in a sack with rocks and throw it into Lake Ontario.

I was surfing around from blog to blog a few weeks ago and found this great Zen proverb: "Before enlightenment; chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment; chop wood, carry water." Very smart.

I spent the whole frickin weekend cleaning and organizing my bungalow in anticipation of company coming this Friday. I never, ever want to clean again, but it is a special kind of relaxed once it's done and you can sit and chill, isn't it? On Saturday, God help me, I bought a Dyson. I can't believe how great it works. I've had my (short-haired) cat for 1 1/2 months and I keep a very clean house, but that thing picked up gobs of disgusting animal hair and everything else. I officially love it and wonder how I ever lived without it.

Work? Not so much. I hate it half of the time and spend a couple hours each day trying not to stroke out. But some of the people are really friendly and kind. I hope I can develop friendships with some of them. NY? It's still coming together. I've been getting out a little more and making plans to explore the area, so I'm giving it the old college try. I have two fun trips coming up, so at some point I'll have more to blog about than my cat and my vacuum cleaner. If you're lucky.

  1. I forget where I got the picture and the proverb from! Sorry!

  2. I am jealous over your vacuum cleaner choice... everybody says Dysons are great, and I'm stuck with my beat-up old vacuum that doesn't suck.

Which ordinarily would be a good thing, but that's not the case here.

  3. You got the proverb from me, sistah! I stole it from some Buddhists. I think there's actually a book by that title. Anyhoo, it always helps me when I'm feeling like I just can't deal. Or that I'm too cool for school (how many other catch phrases of my youth can I put in here?).

I had no idea that This American Life was available for free! God bless you! I will now go and download like a fiend.

  5. I hate cleaning too. Stanley sheds like you wouldn't believe. I have to sweep daily and I vacuum twice a week (at least). And each night I come home to a huge pile of hair and begin the process all over again.

  6. Cleaning is the most futile activity. But we do it. And in a flash, it's time to repeat. I Love your random posts. Don't throw the cat in the lake. If you do, use bricks instead of rocks.

  9. i can't believe you have a dyson. I can't believe it because it is honestly the one material thing I've actually felt like i'd give a bodypart for. Can I come over just to WATCH you use it? that might tide me over.... for a minute! :)

    miss you..........
