Cut Me Mick!

I went to Philly on Thursday. It was my first time there and my first time in PA. The drive was beautiful - PA down 81 was so green that it reminded me of Oregon. I noticed that the houses all look exactly like what kids draw when they draw houses - a box with a peaked roof and a chimney, two windows with perfectly square panes, and a door.

So I really liked it, even though it was freakin hot that day and I thought I could actually see the humidity. I went specifically for the King Tut exhibit, which I've wanted to see since the last time it came to the States in the 1970's, so this was my own little nerd dream come true. The exhibit was really fascinating, and done very well so that anyone would be able to appreciate the history. A few of the items took my breath away. It made me put Egypt on the list of possible vacation destinations for later this year.

I love museums, but I'm not one to spend six hours looking at any one thing (insert joke about Anderson Cooper here), so I made a list of a few other things I wanted to see. My list included the Liberty Bell, which, for a west coaster, is something that exists only in history books. What a thrill. I also wanted to see Independence Hall. And before I left town, a coworker reminded me about the Rocky statue, so I ended up running all over town to hit as much as possible in the short time I had. As the bus pulled up to start the hellish trip home, I realized I had one item left: eating a Philly cheesesteak sandwich. I ran to a street vendor a couple blocks away to grab one, and it was delicious. I know, I know, it wasn't Pat or Geno's, but I only had a few minutes and I'd never had one before. Delicious and gross all at the same time!

I loved the feel of Philly and the people seemed friendly. I'd like to go back to explore more. It felt great being on my own in a new city - that familiar feeling that I love. Everytime I feel it, my mind is flooded with memories of all the other places I've gone and the excitement that I feel when I'm starting a new adventure. I really need to travel more. How about Where in the World is LSL? Next week I'm off to Massachusetts, which I just spelled wrong, also for the first time ever.

  2. So - did I miss something? Who's the dude?

Also - I saw that Tut exhibit in the 70s, in Chicago. And I really believe the little Asian girl in front of me that I kept staring out was, years later, my best friend in college - in California. Both our families flew out to see it. (She doesn't believe me, but I do! : )

Glad you saw it. As I recall, it was cool. : )

  3. I would like to see you do a post on why you could look at Anderson Cooper for six hours. Is he speaking, is he wearing a suit or is he dressed casually. You get the idea.

Don't rush. I've got time. lol

  7. Ahh.....the City of Brotherly Love. What's not to like about a city that advertises that way?
