Sunday Snippets

  • I think it's been snowing for 24 solid hours. We might have ten inches of fresh snow now out there. I should say that I don't hate it, which is a complete miracle. I kind of like it, which means that if I feel that way in less than 1 1/2 years of living here, maybe I'll love it at some point. I only hate driving in it when it's really bad, like a white out. This is all good news. I think I'm gonna like it here.
  • I saw Fiddler on the Roof for the first time last Sunday (as it turns out, there is an actual fiddler, and he's on a roof), and I saw Annie a few nights ago. What a total blast to see it and remember almost every detail from watching the movie over and over as a kid. Carol Burnett is brilliant. And how sweet is the song "Maybe"?
  • Just over a week until Christmas. It's strange to think of it. I'm still specifically enjoying being back in the States for the holidays. The decorations in the stores, the holiday-themed everything. I even notice myself appreciating when I drive down the street and see lit Christmas trees in all the houses. I'm so grateful to be here right now.
  • Work is rough. We're mid-merger and I'm more involved than I've been in past mergers. The rumors of layoffs are starting to look like they're more than rumors, and that is stressful. I need my job. And I don't want to work for the next six months anticipating that every day is going to be pink slip day; I can't handle that stress. I can't. It is a hard knock life, isn't it?
  • Mika announced US tour dates! I have tickets to the NYC show, but I was hoping to get to see him more than once and the cities are too spread out to do that. How can I get from Philly to Boston to NY on consecutive days?
  • My big sister fixed my DVD player today! It hasn't really worked since April, and I watch such little TV that I haven't cared all that much, but life is so much better now that it works.
  • I've been trying to think of a way to grow professionally and try to build more security into my future. On a scale of 1 to 10, how boring and painful does getting a CPA sound?
  • The tat seemed to respond well to the sixth treatment. It's kind of red, more than usual post-treatment, but quite light. Maybe I'm closer to being done than I thought?
  • That Prague post bored me to tears. I was looking forward to blogging about my travels, but it's harder than I thought it would be. Good news for Rick Steves.
  • My little brother and SIL took a video of my 6-month old nephew falling asleep and doing the head-bob while sitting upright. It's the cutest thing you've ever seen.
  • Last night two huge and one small deer spent an hour in my yard eating leaves from a bush. It was the last thing I expected to see when I looked out the window. They were gorgeous and I caught my breath a little when I saw them.
  • I forgot to mention that the minute the made-over little orphan came out on stage in the second act I knew it was fate: that red dress and curly red hair is totally going to be my Halloween costume next year. Can you see the patten leather shoes and white ankle socks?
  • Yep, still snowing.

  1. I want 24 hours of snow. Not 3 hours of it, the power going out, and then rain/slush for 5 weeks.

I'll totally be the Sandy to your Annie.

  2. CPA? Seriously? Ugh. Go get a doctorate and find a tenure track position somewhere! Or even a law degree. Shoot, I'd even advocate actuarial certification over accounting.

  3. Travel writing is, indeed, a very difficult thing...to not sound overly touristy, cover the big points, and make it all appealing at the same time....a tough job...but I liked your post. I saw ANNIE in 1978 on Broadway...my first. I think I still have the LP.

  5. Mika was at Hong Kong a few months ago, unfortunately I was too busy to see him... sort of regret I didn't catch him.

I should check whether he's going to be in Canada when I'm back there... You're a lucky gal!
