Catching Up

  • My sister and I saw There Will Be Blood last night. I just want to hear from one person who loved that movie so they can tell me why. The acting was quite amazing to watch, so that made it good, but I'm totally not artistic enough to get the whole thing. Or something. He's crazy and greedy. Ok. It should have been a documentary on the history channel, not a movie that cost $9.25 to see.

  • I finally saw The Brave One on Friday night. I WANT MY DOG BACK. Jodie Foster is so cool, and I don't usually enjoy movie violence, but it's fun to see the good guys win sometimes. And it's fun to see Terrence Howard all the time.

  • It's been like living in a snow globe here lately, and now one 45* day and there's not a drop to be found. Living in the snow belt is rough, but, I don't know, it's just not as bad as I thought it would be.

  • I forgot to say that I saw four shows while in NYC a few weekends back: November, Spamalot (which incorporated the Superbowl scores into the songs a few times so we could all know what was going on - that was fun), Curtains (I love David Hyde Pierce) and Jersey Boys. I have to say that Jersey Boys far, far exceeded my expectations and is one of the best shows I've seen. It's done so well. I don't think I've witnessed a longer standing ovation before. There's just something about the show that really grabs you. It's an event.

  • I did watch the last quarter of the Superbowl with thousands of my closest friends in Times Square. That was really fun. At two and a half minutes to go I thought the Patriots had it, so I started walking back to my hotel. I was about a block or two away when I heard the crowd ROAR, so I ran, ran, ran back to Time Square to catch the end of the game. I'm not that interested in sports, but it was pretty fun.

  • Now I'm saving and starting to dream and plan my 2008 vacation.

  2. There Will Be Blood is the only Oscar contender I haven't seen yet, but it's on my list!

As for the snow belt--the thing that makes it bearable is that everyone up there knows how to deal with it. No one's bothered by it. Everything doesn't shut down the way it does down here. Hearty folks up there.

  3. I love bullet life-updates.

If you want to send me This American Life I'd be glad to receive!

I assume one day you'll be knocking on my door for sexual favors after all your gift-giving.

  4. The reviews in the UK for TWBB have been pretty gushing, but I'm not sure I need to sit through 3 hours of Daniel Day Lewis intensity. I'm past 40 now - I have to prioritise my hours... he says, lounging in his chair, slack jawed as he drinks the internet with his eyes.... Life events like missing a train in a Mika-haze are far more memorable, I'm sure.
