2012 Stragglers

(I only have two drafts saved, waiting to be finished, and this is one of them. It kind of kills me how happy I sound in this post, but I'm going to go with it and believe that kind of joy is coming back to me soon.)

I meant to post about a few more activities and events that happened in 2012, but I didn't get around to it. That's right, I said I would and then I didn't. But I still want record of these here, so I'm going to smoosh them all into one post. Here are some things that were too fun to forget:

Adventure
In August, our weather in Portland finally turned hot and I decided to check something off the old life list and go white water rafting. I've always wanted to do it and I don't remember how it came to mind, but I googled, found some courage, lost the courage, called my brother to give me courage, and booked our trip. Here we are having a more adventurous time than the brochure promised. And, yes, there I am jumping off that damn cliff. I still can't believe I did that.

Love
In October, I attended Sizzle and Mr. Darcy's wedding in Seattle. I'm going to be honest and say I'm not a huge fan of weddings, but I have to tell you - I get teary just thinking of it. It felt special like my sister's and brother's weddings felt special. (All the other ones? Just not my thing. I'm sorry! It's not you, it's me.) It was small, and the venue was gorgeous, and every single little detail made it a dream. Oh, and maybe a gorgeous, glowing couple added to the magic, too.

Impulse
Also in October, I flew down to Dallas for one quick night for a country music concert by a guy called Jason Aldean (with Luke Bryan). Now, I do enjoy myself some country music, but I only knew a couple of his songs and didn't even know his name. However, at that time it was really starting to hit the fan with my condo purchase, and I really love live music, so I went to the Google machine to see if I could find myself an adventure. And this is what I found. His last tour date was a week away and in Dallas, TX, so I just up and purchased a plane ticket and a concert ticket and waited for the fun to begin. Honestly, it was more than I could have imagined - an outdoor concert that was one big, wild party. Come on, try it. You know you want to like country music. (Jason is here, Luke is here.)

While in Dallas, I met up with a blogger friend I've read for years and had the most easy, relaxing, connecting few hours I've had in recent memory. It was like a mini-vacation in the middle of a mini-vacation. Scott writes a lot better than you do, but don't let that stop you from checking him out.

Bangarang
In December, I went to Minneapolis to attend Doomtree's annual multi-night concert event called Blowout. This was Blowout 8, and holy crapola, it was fantastic. I've seen them at a few other places, but it was something special to see them in their hometown. I only made two of the three nights, and the first night I arrived early and staked my claim at the front of the floor about a row back from the stage. Man alive, folks are pushy up there. All the 20-somethings can have it. The second night I got a beer and hung way back. Both shows were a big, old party. I love you, Doomtree! Call me! (Little Mercy is one of my faves.)

  1. You will get back to a happy place. I know it.

I LOVE white water rafting. If you ever need a partner in crime for that, call me. But I will not jump off a cliff. I will leave that to you. :-)
