Fuji-san

A friend of mine went to Mt. Fuji yesterday and sent back this gorgeous photo. For the Japanese, it's very important what a person dreams about during their first night's sleep in a new year (called hatsuyume). Some put pictures under their pillows in an attempt to influence their dreams and their luck. The first desired dream is about Mt. Fuji, the second is about hawks and the third is about eggplant! I don't know why! My first dream in the new year was about that same friend moving away, which he will be doing in a week. Abandonment is certainly not a preferred dream to start off the new year. I don't need a picture under my pillow to tell me that. I don't even want to know what that means 2006 holds for me!
