Pride

Despite being in a terrible mood lately, I've had a really nice weekend, so I'm hoping this is a trend towards better times. Yesterday I forced myself outside in the heat and humidity and went downtown for the Pride festival. This was my first Pride in this city, (last year I was in Buffalo), and I was a wee bit worried that I would arrive and find ten or fifteen other people standing around looking at each other. I was very pleasantly surprised to find a pretty good-sized celebration with a fun parade and great booths. I intended to just stay a few minutes - it was 95° out and I just wanted to make an appearance to show my support - but then the drag shows started, and god knows I love a good drag show. I stayed out in the heat for almost two hours before I finally dragged myself and my six-foot rainbow boa home.

Which reminds me . . . here is Kelly's third annual (my second annual involvement) Pride picture to celebrate Pride month! My post from last year and a related movie recommendation here.

  2. I have to say, that heat does nothing except make me more bitchy than I typically am. Now, as for that rainbow boa......

  3. I'm so glad you were able to find another place to wear that boa.

  4. That flag photo is awesome! Really like the motion.

I was about to type "it's kinda cold for Pride isn't it" then relized it was 95 degree! :D Vancouver's Pride is not till August generally because of the weather. :D

  6. So that city has a Pride celebration now, huh? Wow--we've come a long way baby. The extent of gay life there when I was in college was a bar called Ryan's which was really the only place to dance in town and another bar called Mr. T's (I pity the '80s reference) where none of us college twinks would have dared show our freshly scrubbed faces because the place was filled with what we considered to be creepy old men at the time. Sadly, these days I'd fit right in at Mr. T's.
